Housing and Supportive Services

​Affordable Housing Programs

Our agency offers two basic services to meet the needs of the homeless/near homeless for supportive living environments that foster interpersonal growth and mutual self-help: Homeshare and Transitional, Intergenerational Group Residence.

Homeshare

​This Dallas countywide program facilitates arrangements between individuals who have more housing than they need with people and/or families in need of housing.
​The program cuts across cultural, ethnic, gender, religious, economic and multi-generations issues. The essential elements are safety, comfort and a feeling of self-worth.

Rapid Rehousing

​The purpose of the group residence is to provide not only longer term residency to the homeless, but also a safety network of supportive services that provides opportunities to improve educational, social and economic status so that clients may regain independence, self-sufficiency and return to more traditional housing.

Green Haus At Santa Fe Trail

​Utilizing efficient, eco-friendly design, the GREEN HAUS is our newest model for creating efficient, comfortable, and affordable housing options for rebuilding families and broken lives.
The Green Haus is a bold new step in providing effective, innovative housing options to help break the cycle of homelessness.

About Us

​Shared Housing Center was created in 1984 to provide and facilitate affordable housing options. Our mission has been to offer housing options and supportive services that foster independence, empowerment, and self-worth and to serve a multicultural, intergenerational population.

Annual Events

​School is Cool
​We make every effort to provide a school uniform, shoes and a back pack filled with the appropriate school supplies for school age children in our program. Each year we have approximately 300 current and former clients participate in a two-hour party of food, games and catching up before handing out the bag of goodies.

Holiday Hero
Become a Holiday Hero by “adopting” a child, adult, or senior citizen! Purchase a few gifts for our clients and help them celebrate the holiday spirit of Hanukah, Christmas or Kwanzaa.

Workdays
With such a small staff, we rely on volunteers to help us accomplish our work. There are at least 6 workdays at the shelter properties and another 4 here at our offices.  If you have 4 or what may feel like 40 hours to give, call us.  It is a win-win feeling for all involved!

Fundraising Events
​The Gay & Lesbian Fund for Dallas  (GLFD) held one of the greenest events this side of St Patrick's Day.  The Green Tie for Green Haus was on March 24, 2018, at 7 for Parties. GLFD selected Shared Housing Center, specifically their Green Haus capital project, as the beneficiary of its biennial event.
