Shared Housing Center was founded in 1984, as a shared program of the Brady Center and the Center for Housing Resources, and in collaboration with the Texas Department on Aging, the Access Center for the Elderly, the Dallas Area Agency on Aging, and Catholic Charities of Dallas.
In 1987, we formalized as a community-serving, non-profit organization and resided in the Wilson Historic District of the Meadows Foundation.
In 2000, we purchased our official headquarters in the Deep Ellum Corridor, in Dallas, with support from the Meadows Foundation and City of Dallas Community Development Block Grants. Headquarters housed all administrative and case management services, a food pantry, a computer lab for our clients, a donation room for furniture and household goods, a toy room for children, and a women’s closet with apparel for job interviews and special occasions.
In 2022, our offices were relocated to the Green Haus at Santa Fe Trail, in old East Dallas, our newest housing community serving Dallas County residents
