History
Through collaboration of the Texas Department on Aging, Access Center for the Elderly, the Dallas Area Agency on Aging and Catholic Charities of Dallas, Shared Housing Center was founded in 1984 as a shared program of the Brady Center and Center for Housing Resources. In 1987, Shared Housing Center was incorporated as a separate 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and provided offices in the Wilson Historic District of the Meadows Foundation.
Shared Housing Center currently operates two distinct housing services along with a variety of supportive services, children’s programs and special projects which focus on self-sufficiency and family stability. Clients applying for our programs must pass a criminal background check and drug test. Homeshare & Homeshare CARE programs – provides housing solutions for individuals who have housing with individuals in need of housing. Learn more Group Residence Shelter– provides temporary supportive housing for homeless single parents mothers with children and older adults (age 50+). Learn more Green Haus Community Coming soon! – 24 unit new construction with “green design.” The community will provide permanent supportive housing as well as temporary housing with a focus on homeless families and single older adults. Shared Housing Mission:Shared Housing Center was created in 1984 to provide and facilitate affordable housing options. Our mission has been to offer housing options and supportive services that foster independence, empowerment, and self-worth and to serve a multicultural, intergenerational population.
