DART Light Rail is coming in front of our building!

DART Light Rail is coming in front of our building! While this will be great news for our clients when fully operational, it will bring challenges for all of us during the construction time.

We plan to remain open for business during the construction period (2 years), but we have been warned that the traffic patterns will change from time to time.

We know that many of you have a great habit of cleaning your closets, convincing your friends and colleagues to do the same and haul your stuff over to our offices. And while we hope you will continue to do this, you need to know that it may be difficult at times.

Construction will start on or about August 14, 2006 and not be completed until August 14, 2008. We will encourage you to call our offices for updates as well as go to DART’s website for traffic details.

When all of this is done – the Deep Ellum Station will be right in front of us! Maybe we should plan a celebration in honor of our survival! In the meantime, please remember that our clients need your slightly worn clothes, shoes, furniture, traveling toiletries, books, dishes, pots & pans, bed linens, bath towels, toys, games and costume jewelry! We will try our best to accommodate your visits with the latest information!

The bottom of this page provides you with the details that we were provided during the July DART Construction meeting. Please pass this information to the “network” of friends – just in case we left someone off the list!

Thanks… and we hope you will continue to think of our families as you collect your donations!

Dart Construction Plan

The work (Southeast Corridor - which starts at Good Latimer and ends at Hatcher for now) has a simultaneous start date of August 14. The exit of Downtown/Good Latimer off of Central Expressway (traveling from the North) will experience interruptions as they remove a few ramps and grade them to street level. They are also working on the existing light rail at the intersection to “soften” the sharp turn that currently is made to get to Pearl Station.

The Deep Ellum Tunnel has a 2 year construction period. The first year will be the removal of the southside of the tunnel and bringing it to street level. The removal will impact the moving of utilities, street closures, rebuilding curbs, etc. on the south bound of the road - making the north bound tunnel a two way street. The second year will include closing the northbound side of the tunnel, grading it to street level as well as constructing the station.

They promised that they will give us a week notice each time there will be an impact on utility closure, etc.

Keep in mind that Baylor University Medical Center is building a new emergency facility during this time period. Many streets to the east of us will also be re-directed at times.
